Imagine a device that can screen you for the Covid-19 virus and show the result in seconds. That’s what the UAE has developed.
QuantLase Imaging Lab, the medical-research department of International Holdings Company (IHC) developed a device with an AI-powered laser testing technology for screening of the Covid-19 virus. This equipment can be used large scale screenings and is suitable for hospitals, airports, and other public places like malls and cinemas.
Dr. Pramod Kumar the head of the team of researchers at the lab which has been studying the change in the cell structure of the virus-infected blood said that the equipment uses a CMOS detector that enables mass-scale screening. Using a laser-based DPI (Diffractive Phase Interferometry) technique, based on optical-phase modulation, can give a signature of infection within a few seconds.
Currently, the device is undergoing extensive testing but is expected to be available in the market in a few months. The QuantLase Imaging lab has been studying the change in the cell structure of virus-infected blood.
We are always following innovations related to the early and rapid detection of Covid-19. The government is keen on supporting initiatives that help the healthcare system in the UAE. Health officials have been closely monitoring the progress of trials with QuantLase in order to test this equipment. We are proud to see a technology that works and that will help to protect our people better.
